VP Trish: Nest 610

Congratulations to the Officers and Members of Nest 610 on a fabulous golf tournament! Members were so pleased to reconnect, but Nest 610 made the 52nd National Golf Tournament so much better! Those who worked (volunteered) were pleasant, energetic and helpful!

As I have mentioned, working with Bob Sulecki, Greg Wieser, Jim McCall and other Nest 610 Members was wonderful. Greg and I were working together to pave the way for future tournaments, as this was my first as the National Golf Commissioner. I have my opinion as to how this position should involve working with the Host Nest and handling some of the work (mainly the actual golf).

Tiarra McGinnis (Communications Assistant) and I worked together to create a Certificate of Appreciation for me to present to Greg and Bob. It was a simple piece of paper (although nicely framed!) that merely said thank you! We acknowledge and value all that you and Nest 610 did to orchestrate such a fabulous event! Thank you for Fun, Fraternalism and Camaraderie!

At the completion of the Awards Presentation on Friday evening, President Kuzma helped me present this award. He mentioned that collectively the Executive Committee, along with the Board of Directors has had some trepidation regarding the success and future of our Nests (especially those with buildings). Nest 610 has not only survived but thrived during the pandemic. They continued to operate (on a limited basis) but also made considerable improvements to their Nest building. Our President thanked and congratulated the Members but especially Nest President, Bob Sulecki, as he was the lead during this time. Hats off for a job well done!

The Nests and Members are the major component in the Polish Falcons! Without you, we would not exist.

VP Trish: National Golf Results

Below, a list of all the scores is available along with a list of all the winners in all eight categories for Thursday. The results and list of scores for Friday are also available, but there are only four categories for the Doubles Scrambles.

You are all winners in my mind as you were gracious with the rain and award delays. You were very generous with the charities, especially with the request for backpacks. You were very supportive and appreciative of the hard work by the Officers and Members of Nest 610!

It was wonderful to see all of you in person and I am looking forward to enjoying more National events. See you in La Porte, Indiana in November for the National Volleyball Tournament (youth and adult) and then in St. Louis, Missouri in April for the National Bowling Tournament.

Enjoy the remainder of the summer!

VP Trish: 2021 National Golf Hole Sponsors

The following Nests, Districts, Directors and Officers sponsored a sign at the National Golf Tournament. As you know (or maybe you don’t), the entry fee does not cover all of the expenses. Your support is greatly appreciated. Pretty good response with over 1/3 of the Nests supporting Nest 610! Thank you notes will be going out soon!

Click here to view the list.

If you would like to see a photo of your sign, they are posted below. Or, you can visit the Nest 610 Facebook page.

VP Trish: Recapping the National Golf Tournament – Part 2

Another idea I had for our National Golf Tournament was to acknowledge the distance traveled by our golfers to join in all this fun! A friend of Druhna Chris made this customized hubcap for me. This is another traveling “trophy.”

This year, the Nest who traveled the farthest was St. Louis, Mo. Members from Nest 45 journeyed 673 miles!

There were ten golfers along with Druhny Mary and Cindy, who came to not only volunteer but to encourage the golfers to become bowlers in the spring! Nest 45 is the host of the National Bowling Tournament to be held in late April.

Next year, when they join us in South Bend, we will pass it on. The Nest and year are written on the reverse side of the hubcap. I actually borrowed this idea from the Adult Volleyball from the 1990’s; there was a hubcap going around then.

Thank you to all the Nest 45 Members as they were also generous with their support of the backpack project and Nest 610! See you in St. Louis!

VP Trish: Golf Correction

The 52nd National Golf Tournament was my first event as the National Golf Commissioner. Overall, it was a wonderful experience especially working with Greg Wieser, Bob Sulecki and the Members of Nest 610. However, I learned that I need to have help while scoring. John Nicpon will be going to the golf from now on! In the meantime, I made an error that needs corrected.

William Larko, Nest 41, New Kensington, PA (District IV), shot an impressive 77 (pretty amazing considering the rain)! For some silly reason, I entered his total incorrectly. His scores for skins were accurate, but I entered the scratch score erroneously.  Due to my error, he was not announced at the awards presentation. A medal has been ordered and will be sent to Druh Larko. I apologize! I made the mistake. I will do my best to not repeat such an error.

Thank you again to all the participants!

A happier blog will be shared next week!

VP Trish: “It’s Christmas!”

My Mom used to say that when preparing for Christmas, one would shop, wrap, bake, cook and decorate until you simply ran out of time! It’s Christmas! Years ago when working on events, we would say to one another – it’s Christmas! The event is here; there is no more time.

Today at Nest 610 in Erie, Pa., it’s Christmas! Some golfers have already arrived and are golfing in the Hammer Open. Others are traveling. Registration opens at 4 p.m., and it is going to be so wonderful to be at a National Event (it has been too long)!

Hopefully, Mother Nature will smile on us!

Looking forward to fun, fraternalism and camaraderie! Thank you to Greg Wieser and all the Nest 610 Members who have worked so hard in preparation of this wonderful event!

VP Trish: Golf Update

As I write this (Friday evening), I am thinking that next week at this time, the golf will be complete, all the prizes awarded, all the meals consumed! But we will still be enjoying the camaraderie of a Falcon event. Hopefully, we’ll be a bit sunburned!

Greg Wieser told me that Erie has been experiencing more rain than usual this summer. The forecast currently is calling for warm temperatures with scattered storms next week, although there is plenty of time for that to change.

Please consider bringing your umbrella and rain gear. Nothing keeps the clouds away more than being prepared!

An email was sent to all the golfers (there were a few of you who had friends/family emails listed) with the information that Greg has shared regarding the tournament. All of that information is in the blog from this past Wednesday. If you are golfing in the Hammer Open, your tee time was included. The Hammer is being played at Scenic Heights. Jeff Jalowiecki of Nest 307 is taking care of the Hammer!

We are asking each golfer to bring a backpack to donate to a local center. If you missed that blog, please click here. They will be helping a local community.

As always, if you have any questions, please contact me.

No rain dances please, we want perfect golf weather!

Safe travels, see you in a few!

VP Trish: National Golf Schedule

One week!!! Just one more week until we unite in Erie! Nest 610 is prepared and all of us are more than ready to go!

Each golfer will receive an email from me with this information. If you haven’t returned your waiver, please do so. If you don’t mail it by tomorrow, just bring it with you please.

Safe travels to all of you! Czolem!

VP Trish: District Golf Commissioners

When I left the office earlier in the week, I had received all but 30 of the waivers; this is great! Hopefully, the rest will arrive next week. When Jim Cox, Sr. of Nest 307, Southington, CT sent in his waiver, he included a National Golf Tournament rule book from 1977! What a cool surprise, thank you Jim!

Pretty funny how things change. This part amused me in a warped way – The General Chairman and Organization of the Local Committee: Personnel – The National Golf Chairman shall be appointed by the Officers and Directors of the National Headquarters. The membership of the National Committee including a percentage of women on said committee. Said percentage will be determined by the participation in previous years, and shall be appointed by National Headquarters.

Eventually the rule was that each District would elect one female and one male commissioner at their District Convention. Now, each District may have two, but gender does play a part. Earlier this year, the commissioners and I met via Zoom. We will meet a couple times a year to share ideas.

Currently the following are District Golf Commissioners:

  • District I – Ed Ciesla, Nest 946, Hillsborough, NJ
  • District II – Pat Heineman, Nest 45, St. Louis, MO
Jeff Beilfuss, Nest 907, Cicero, IL
  • District IV – Cheryl Paterni, Nest 8, Pittsburgh, PA
Steve Lubinski, Nest 146, New Castle, PA
  • District V – Jim Cox, Sr., Nest 307, Southington, CT
  • District VI – Bob Kuzmicz, Nest 80, South Bend, IN
  • District IX – Kristen Baginski, Nest 610, Erie, PA
Nick Carter, Nest 493, Batavia, NY
  • District XIII – Chuck Johns, Nest 86, Hamtramck, MI

Please pick up a backpack to donate. I have heard from quite a few who have purchased a backpack; this is wonderful!

Am back from the beach next week, so I will be sending an email to all the golfers with necessary information.

Be safe, have fun! Pretty soon!!!

VP Trish: Ready to Go (and a Trip to the Zoo)!

I am enjoying my favorite place, Geneva on the Lake, Ohio with my favorite people! John, Ryan and Ryanna! Quite a few fun-filled days are planned. We started our trip with a visit to the Cleveland Zoo! Seriously, why would I go to Cleveland??? It is on the way (well, in a round about way) and the kids often go to the Pittsburgh Zoo so I thought another zoo would be fun!!!

All that can be done prior to the National Golf Tournament has been done! Nest 610 is ready to go! This is going to be a blast! Getting together after two years! Back to Erie! So exciting!

Please submit your waiver (if you haven’t already done so) and please pick up a backpack or two!

Be safe!
