Charity Plans for Camp

We are supporting two causes this year through donations collected at camp. The first is our tradition--gathering and filling backpacks for students in need of help starting off the 2017-2018 school year. We are asking that everyone who comes to camp bring school supplies to donate to this year’s "Backpack for Students" collection. Just think of what you need at the beginning of your school year, and bring something along those lines. We will have everyone take part in packing up the backpacks during our camp week.

Here is a list of ideas for the backpacks: pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, crayons, markers, Sharpies, notebooks, folders, planners, scissors, glue sticks, pencil sharpeners, pencil cases, loose leaf paper and binders.

Second, we are going to send care packages to our soldiers in Afghanistan. RJ Sharp is a Member of Nest 31, Detroit, Mich. (since birth) and a participant at many of his Nest's activities. He is a Bronze Star recipient, a former PFA Future Leader, Camp Counselor and Zlot athlete. RJ now is a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. We would like to gather some supplies together and make up care packages to send to RJ and his men. So, we are asking for the Youth Campers to bring items to donate to the care packages as well, and we will pack them up and get them to RJ and his men after our camp week is complete.

Here is a list of ideas for the care packages: individual snack bags, cookies, trail mix, nuts, cheese-itz, Gold Fish, chips, pretzels, non-chocolate candy and/or hard candies (such as Airheads, Jolly Ranchers, Swedish Fish, Sour Patch candy, peppermints, butterscotch, jelly beans), body wash, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrushes, mouthwash, sunscreen, Chap Stick, comic books and graphic novels, DVD movies (any type), Crystal Light or Gatorade drink mixes and sugar-free energy drinks.
